Known for her Point Guard skills, Sabrina also took part in designing the shoe, not giving away the authority to others, but taking ownership of her sneaker’s look, feel, and technology. With increased comfort at the pole position, the Sabrina 1 has full-length Nike React cushioning and a top-loaded Nike Zoom Air unit in the forefoot.
Inspired by Ionescu’s Romanian heritage, the intricate embroidery patterns pay homage to traditional Romanian art and architecture and feature a dotted “i” that wraps around the top and bottom, paying respect to her last name. On the medial side of the shoe, a vertically slanted Swoosh represents the barriers that Ionescu has broken throughout her career, and a hidden “Anyone, Anywhere” quote serves as a reference to Ionescu’s unmatched competitive spirit.
