Sneakersnstuff London at the adidas fanatic cup in New York City

We were all buzzin to be a part of what was a fantastic set up on Brooklyn Pier 5. For a spectator this was a dream situation – searing heat and sunshine in front of the New York City skyline, free food, drinks and ice cream all added to a great day out. In terms of playing conditions – not ideal at all, 30+ degree heat and pure sunshine was not going away. The whole team were drenched in sweat just from a light training kick about. Regardless the show had to go on and it did.

A total of 28 teams 7 groups all playing to win the trophy and bragging rights. Sneakersnstuff London totally underestimated the Americans, the mood from the off was a very buoyant and confident one which was swiftly shut down in the 1st group game against a very well drilled Bowery FC ’twas a harsh lesson learnt as we lost 1-0 in the dying minutes of our very 1st game. We matched them up until the last few minutes where our concentration went for a split second and as a result we were punished with a good team goal. Disappointingly our heads dropped but we all re-grouped, analysed where we went wrong and how we could improve in the next game. Unfortunately we did not do enough in our 2nd game against Complex who parked the bus in front of goal as they say. I think the fact they had lost their 1st game 4-0 we guess they wanted to frustrate us as much as possible as we did bring it. Throughout the whole game they had not registered 1 shot on target and Billy was just spectating all game. Hugely frustrating as Henry hit the post, Yousaf hit the bar and Chris came close on a few occasions we just could not nick a vital goal in the searing heat which was at full pelt hitting the 34 degree mark. At this point we had nothing to lose and just wanted to enjoy the rest of the day.

The food was a selection of traditional American dishes in the form of hot dogs, burgers and pulled pork buns with the addition of ice cream and drinks. We just want to thank adidas Originals for the opportunity to go to New York and participate in the adidas fanatic cup. We had a blast!
