BMX superstar Nigel Sylvester has treated some of our favorite sneakers with a special spin. After working on the Air Jordan 1 or Nike Dunk SB High, amongst others, the New York City native now has reworked a true OG, the AIR SHIP.
Inspired by his upbringing in Queens, NY, Nigel makes a perfect link between his DNA and the DNA of the shoe that is closely connected to Michael Jordan’s first days in the NBA. From proving himself to others and silencing the doubters in the BMX landscape, Nigel Sylvester has, from the start, proved himself to be one of the greats and continues to do so.
“This sneaker is about origins and proving yourself.”
With the inspiration in mind, Nigel now flipped some of the shoe’s classic features, such as the NIKE AIR becoming the BIKE AIR, another DNA adjustment that shows his dedication to bike riding, his vision, and pushing the boundaries of what is possible. Crafted with slightly crackled upper and furry suede overlays, the shoe has vintage elements and embroidered wordmarks such as “BIKE AIR” on the heel and a Mini Swoosh on the toe box, similar to his AJ1.
