Jordan Brand’s ´85 series, where they have given their most iconic silhouettes the original OG, triple OG, treatment, has been a star amongst recent AJ1 releases. The slightly higher cut resembles the model worn by MJ, and with additional vintage details, you get beamed straight to the mid-‘80s. With that being said, JB is now bringing back another OG from their line-up, the Air Jordan 3 “White Cement.” Reimagining the days when Michael Jordan touched the ground (or hardwood) for his third season, the original colorway has additional aging features for a final vintage touch. Equipped with yellow midsole and Nike Air branding, the mid-top sneaker was Tinker Hatfield’s (known for his Air Max and more Jordan designs) first Jordan design and brought to life the now-iconic Elephant print across the front and back.

After Peter Moore (RIP) left Jordan Brand for adidas, yes, that’s the guy who designed the Air Jordan 1 or the Nike Dunk; the door was open for a young architect to give it a go: Tinker Hatfield. The creator of some of the most iconic AJ sneakers worked closely with Jordan to match his on-court needs and brought a new identity to the brand with visible Air, leaving away the Swoosh (similar to the AJ2), adding the midsole of the Nike Air Revolution, or the Elephant print mentioned above.

“I jumped on a plane to visit Michael Jordan and get to know him.” “We talked. I realised that he had a good sense of style. He said he wanted a pair of basketball shoes that were comfortable and fresh right out of the box, that didn’t require breaking in”.

First released in 1988 and with visible AIR cushioning in the back, the shoe also has an embroidered Jumpman logo on the tongue designed by Peter Moore. Winning a bunch of honors during the 87/88 season, such as NBA All-Star (plus ASG MVP) and NBA scoring champion. And, of course, we can’t forget his Slam Dunk Contest during the All Star Game.

Released in four different original colorways, White/Cement,” “Black/Cement,” “Fire Red,” and “True Blue,” the status of an icon was cemented by a classic ad together with Mars Blackmon aka Spike Lee.

The colorway Michael Jordan wore the most was the White Cement rendition that is soon returning as “Re-imagined” version to celebrate 35 years since it first touched base with basketball and sneaker culture. Crafted with soft leather, just as the first iteration, and featuring hits of Sail and Fire Red, the AJ3 remains iconic with all the OG features we love.
