If the rumors are true, adidas and BAPE are back with another collaboration that pays homage to 20 years of changing the collabo-game. What can we expect? Probably a year full of collaborations, kicking off with the Campus 80s. With the highly anticipated forthcoming release of adidas x BAPE sneakers, we look back at some of the most coveted pairs of the long-time partnership.

It was the year 2003 when the German sportswear brand adidas and the Japanese streetwear brand A Bathing Ape first joined forces to work on the Super Ape Star. The heart-to-find collaboration was part of the “The Respect Is Mutual” link-up, showing their appreciation for the culture by colliding with each of their DNAs. Limited to 100 pairs (ish), each of these pairs had a certain highlight. From a clean black design to the signature BAPE camo, the Super Ape Stars were the perfect kick-off to a legendary partnership.

Oh, and check out this unreleased sample we found.

After the success of the Super Ape Star, adidas and A Bathing Ape showed respect for skateboarding by introducing the Super Ape Skate collection consisting of mid-cut versions of the superstar, leaving off the shell toe and opting for classic colorways such as green and white, black and white, a snakeskin version, and one super-limited snakeskin version with iridescent sub color, that gave this special edition a unique spin.

With two huge collaborations in the pocket, adidas and A Bathing Ape took a few years off, just to come back in 2011 and work on the adidas Superstar 80s “B-Sides.” Inspired by their classic adi footwear, BAPE used the original ‘80s blueprint of the Superstar and gave it a luxurious spin. Crafted with suede and featuring gold foil detailing, and a French “TREFLE EN CHEVRONS ET BAPE” slogan on the side, this collaboration was adidas’ hype highlight, with people fainting in line to get their hands on a pair.

In the years after, adidas and A Bathing Ape took in a third collaborator, non-other than Undefeated from Los Angeles. The trio worked on various silhouettes over the years, including the BAPE x UNDFTD x adidas Consortium Campus 80s in black and green and a signature camo ZX5000, all released in 2013.

After the first drop, BAPE x UNDFTD x adidas continued with another round of classic Superstar 80s. The first two colorways in black and white were released in April 2015, while two eye-catching renditions with blue and black camo followed in October.

In the following years, adidas and BAPE made sure not to miss any collabo opportunities, which included the BAPE x adidas Originals NMD R1, adidas Originals Superstar Boost with trio-partner and streetwear brand NEIGHBORHOOD, BAPE x adidas Dame 4 for Portland Trail Blazer superstar Damian Lillard, BAPE x adidas Skateboarding 3ST.002, BAPE x NEIGHBORHOOD x adidas Originals NHBAPE POD-S3.1 and NHBAPE NMD STLT as well as the BAPE x adidas Football Ultra Boost and Adizero 5-Star, Bape x Undefeated x Adidas ZX 8000
