The adidas Gazelle is making a much anticipate return this month. After the drop in May the iconic sports sneaker will be arriving in 12 bright suede colorways. Backed by non other than the global style icon and self confessed adidas fan girl, Kate Moss.
“Gazelles were THE trainer we all wore in the 90’s. They have a timeless look that just doesn’t date. I was and always have been an adidas girl.” – Kate Moss
“Like the Gazelle, Kate Moss is just as relevant in 2016 as she was back in the 1990s, which is why the image works so well,” said Adidas brand consultant and curator Gary Aspden. “Kate told me earlier this year that when it comes to trainers she has always been an ‘Adidas girl,’ so there was an affinity and an existing synergy there.”
To bring the iconic image of Kate into the modern day adidas have smartly aligned themselves with the digital artist Doug Abraham — best known by his popular Instagram handle @bessnyc4 — on a campaign that hacks an archive image of the supermodel wearing her Gazelles in 1993.
With the success of the adidas Stan Smith still going strong since Pheobe Philo stepped onto the runway for a bow after the Celine Autumn/Winter 2011 presentation we can only imagine the pick up of the Gazelle with its ties to the British It girl and the style of the 90’s. Keep your eyes peeled for the drop in the coming weeks. We are hyped for these.
